How to Rank Your Clinic on Google Maps in 2026: A Doctor’s Checklist

How to Rank Your Clinic on Google Maps in 2026: A Doctor’s Checklist

When a patient searches “dentist near me” or “orthopedic doctor near me”, Google shows a map with just 3 clinics. Those 3 get most of the attention. This checklist shows exactly what gets a clinic into that top 3, based on what we see across the doctor profiles we manage.

Step 1: Get the foundation right
  • Verify your profile. Unverified profiles hold back updates and insights. If Google asks for video verification, record one continuous clip from the signboard outside to your consultation room.
  • Exact clinic name. Use the name on your signboard. Stuffing words like “best” into the name can get flagged.
  • Accurate map pin and address. Patients ask for directions; a wrong pin loses them at the last step.

Step 2: Tell Google exactly what you are
  • Primary category: the most specific one (“Orthopaedic surgeon”, not “Doctor”).
  • Supporting categories: for real services only. In our audits, 49% of profiles were missing useful supporting categories.
  • Description: who you are, what you treat, where you are, in plain patient language.
  • Services: 15–20 services, each with a 2–3 line explanation.

Step 3: Make it easy to choose you
  • Timings and holiday hours. 75% of profiles we audited had never set holiday hours. A patient who finds you closed on Diwali doesn’t come back.
  • WhatsApp and booking links. 93% had no booking link.
  • 25+ real photos. Signboard, reception, consultation room, equipment, team. 81% had not added a photo in months.

Step 4: Stay active

  • Post 3–4 Google updates a week: health tips, festival advice, awareness days.
  • Answer questions patients ask on your profile.
  • Accept or reject Google’s suggested edits. 58% of profiles had edits waiting, some of them wrong.

Step 5: Build reviews the right way

A steady flow of 2–3 genuine reviews a day, and a reply to every review. 80% of profiles we audited had most recent reviews unanswered. Read how to get Google reviews ethically.

Step 6: Be consistent everywhere

Use the same name, address and phone on Google, Practo, Justdial, your website and social pages. Inconsistency confuses Google and AI tools alike.

What this looks like in real numbers
  • Dr Saurabh Talekar (orthopaedic surgeon, Mumbai): 1 → 158 calls from Google a month in 14 months. 1,060 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 4.9★ by 125 patients.
  • Dr N.M. Rahman (eye specialist, Jorhat): 0 → 94 calls from Google a month in 16 months. 544 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 4.8★ by 100 patients.
  • Dr Sourabh Trivedi (laparoscopic surgeon, Jodhpur): 5 → 94 calls from Google a month in 6 months. 434 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 5.0★ by 201 patients.

Not showing up at all? Start with why your clinic isn’t showing on Google. For the bigger picture, read the complete guide to SEO for doctors in India.

A 15-minute weekly routine
  1. Post one or two Google updates.
  2. Reply to every new review.
  3. Check for Google’s suggested edits.
  4. Add 1–2 new photos.
  5. Look at last month’s calls and directions.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Keyword-stuffing the clinic name.
  • Adding categories you don’t offer.
  • Posting only offers and discounts instead of helpful health information.
  • Changing address or name often, which can trigger re-verification.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get my clinic in the top 3 on Google Maps?

How many photos should a clinic have on Google?

Do Google posts help ranking?

Regular posts keep your profile active and relevant. Aim for 3–4 short, useful updates a week.

SEO & Google Growth for Dentists

SEO & Google Growth for Dentists

Dentistry is one of the most searched specialities on Google, and one of the most competitive. In most cities there are several dental clinics within a kilometre, and patients choose fast: a toothache at 10 pm means “dentist near me”, a quick look at ratings, and a call. The clinic that appears first, looks trustworthy and answers the phone gets the patient.

This page explains how dentists in India can get more patients from Google in 2026: what patients search, what makes a dentist’s profile rank, and what results look like, with real numbers from the doctors we manage.

What patients search for

These are the kinds of searches that bring patients to dentists (replace [city] with yours):

  • dentist near me
  • dental clinic near me
  • root canal treatment near me
  • dental implants cost
  • braces for teeth near me
  • tooth pain doctor
  • best dentist in [your city]

Most searches combine a need with a location. Patients rarely search a doctor’s name first; they discover you. Read more in what Indian patients really search.

What’s different about Google for dentists

  • Emergency intent is high. Toothache searches peak in the evening and on weekends. Accurate hours (including Sunday and holiday timings) directly win calls.
  • Treatments are searched separately. Patients search “root canal”, “implants”, “aligners”, “teeth whitening” by name. Each deserves its own service entry with a 2–3 line explanation.
  • Photos sell trust. Clean chairs, sterilisation area, X-ray equipment and a smiling team matter more for dentistry than almost any other speciality.
  • Price anxiety is real. Content that explains “what affects the cost of an implant” builds trust without quoting fixed prices.
  •

The right categories

Categories tell Google what you are. Suggested setup: Dentist (primary), Dental clinic, Cosmetic dentist, Dental implants provider, Orthodontist, Endodontist, Emergency dental service (only if you really offer it). Only add categories for services you actually provide; wrong categories can hurt.

Services to list, each with a 2–3 line explanation

  • Root canal treatment
  • Dental implants
  • Braces and clear aligners
  • Teeth cleaning and scaling
  • Tooth-coloured fillings
  • Crowns and bridges
  • Wisdom tooth removal
  • Teeth whitening
  • Dentures
  • Kids’ dentistry

Detailed services are one of the most underused ranking levers. In our audits, many profiles listed only a few services or none at all.

Google updates that work

Post 3–4 short updates a week. Ideas that work well for dentists:

  • Sensitive teeth to cold: causes and simple fixes
  • Root canal myths vs facts
  • Braces or clear aligners: which suits you?
  • Diwali sweets and your teeth: 5 smart tips
  • When should a child first see a dentist?

Reviews: how to ask the right way

Ask right after a painless procedure, when relief is highest: “If you’re happy with today, a short Google review really helps other patients find us.” Encourage patients to mention the treatment (“my root canal was painless”).

Aim for 2–3 genuine reviews a day, not a sudden burst. Never offer discounts or ask staff or family to review. See our guide on getting Google reviews ethically.

Real results: dentists we work with

  • Dr Aditya Pandhare (dentist, Solapur): 49 → 146 calls from Google a month in 6 months. 1,187 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 4.9★ by 192 patients.
  • Dr Binsa Basheer (dentist, Attingal): 32 → 105 direction requests a month in 7 months. 1,033 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 4.5★ by 55 patients.
  • Dr Abdul Bari (dentist, Aligarh): 31 → 94 direction requests a month in 2 months. 925 calls from Google in the last 12 months.
  • Dr Basant Sharma (dentist, Pilani): 45 → 133 patient actions a month in 10 months. 292 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 4.9★ by 152 patients.

Across all the profiles we actively manage, our doctors received 91,689+ calls and 2.24 lakh+ direction requests from Google (April 2025 – August 2026). See more on our results page.

Your 5-step start

  1. Check your primary category and add the right supporting ones.
  2. Add 10–15 services with short explanations.
  3. Upload 10 real photos: signboard, reception, rooms, team.
  4. Reply to every review from the last 3 months.
  5. Start a daily review routine at reception.

For the full picture, read the complete guide to SEO for doctors in India and our Google Maps ranking checklist.

Mistakes we often see in dental profiles

  • Listing only “Dentist” with no services, so implant and aligner searches go to competitors.
  • Closed on Sunday in reality, but open on Google, or the opposite.
  • Stock photos instead of the real clinic.
  •

Website pages every dental clinic needs

Root canal, implants, braces and aligners, cleaning, and kids’ dentistry, each with a short page answering the questions patients ask at the chair: Does it hurt? How many sittings? How long does it last? These pages also help AI tools recommend you for specific treatments.

Frequently asked questions

How can a dental clinic get more patients from Google?

Choose “Dentist” as the primary category, add each treatment as a separate service, keep timings accurate (including evenings and holidays), add real clinic photos, post regularly and build a steady flow of genuine reviews.

Which Google category is best for a dental clinic?

“Dentist” is usually the best primary category, with supporting categories like Dental clinic, Cosmetic dentist and Dental implants provider, only for services you actually offer.

Should dentists show prices on Google?

Avoid fixed prices that may change. Instead, explain what affects cost and invite patients to call or WhatsApp for a consultation.

Digital Marketing & Google SEO for Doctors in Delhi

Digital Marketing & Google SEO for Doctors in Delhi

Delhi NCR is one of the most crowded healthcare markets in India. For almost every speciality, dozens of clinics compete within a few kilometres, and patients compare ratings, reviews and timings in seconds. Winning here needs a complete, active profile and steady reviews.

At Click2Cure, we actively manage Google profiles for doctors across India, including Delhi. Here is what works for doctors in Delhi, with real results.

How patients in Delhi find doctors

Patients search a speciality plus “near me” or plus their area. Rohini, Pitampura, Dwarka, Lajpat Nagar, Janakpuri and every other neighbourhood behaves like its own small city on Google Maps. Patients in Rohini rarely call a clinic in South Delhi.

What it takes to rank in Delhi

  1. The right categories and 15–20 detailed services so Google matches you to the right searches.
  2. A perfect map pin, timings and holiday hours.
  3. 25+ real photos and 3–4 Google updates a week.
  4. A steady flow of genuine reviews, with a reply to each one.
  5. The same details everywhere online, which also helps AI tools recommend you (what is AEO?).

Real results from Delhi doctors we work with

  • Dr Mamta Agrawal (gynaecologist, Delhi): 0 → 167 calls from Google a month in 3 months. 351 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 4.8★ by 50 patients.

The Complete Guide to SEO for Doctors in India (2026)

The Complete Guide to SEO for Doctors in India (2026)

Every day, patients across India type things like “orthopedic doctor near me”, “best gynaecologist in Indore” or “haddi ka doctor” into Google. Some doctors get those calls. Equally good doctors, sometimes just down the road, don’t. The difference is rarely medical skill. It’s how well Google understands, trusts and shows your clinic.

This guide explains, in plain language, how SEO works for doctors in India in 2026, and what actually moves the needle. It’s based on real data from the doctor profiles we manage at Click2Cure: 91,689+ calls, 2.24 lakh+ direction requests and 32.5 lakh+ profile views from Google between April 2025 and August 2026.’

What “SEO for doctors” really means

SEO (search engine optimisation) simply means making it easy for Google to show you to the right patients. For doctors, there are three layers, and they work together:

  1. Local SEO (Google Business Profile and Maps): the map results patients see when they search for a doctor near them. For most clinics, this is where the majority of new patient calls come from.
  2. Website SEO: your own website ranking for treatments and questions, like “knee replacement cost in Pune” or “PCOS treatment”.
  3. AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation): being named when patients ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI Overviews which doctor to see.

If you do only one thing, do local SEO first. It is closest to the patient’s decision: they search, compare the top results on the map, and call.

How patients actually choose a doctor on Google:

From the searches that showed our doctors’ profiles, one pattern is clear: patients search by need and location, not by doctor name. In a single month (August 2026), our doctors’ profiles appeared in more than 91,500 searches. “Orthopedic doctor near me” alone brought 2,120 of them. Other common searches: “ent doctor near me”, “eye hospital near me”, “pediatrician near me”, “gynecologist near me” and “dermatologist near me”.

The journey is short:

  1. Search: “gynaecologist near me”
  2. Compare: the 3 clinics on the map, their ratings, reviews, photos and timings
  3. Act: call, get directions, open WhatsApp or visit the website

Google Maps shows only 3 clinics before patients have to click “More places”. Being in those 3, for your speciality, in your area, is what fills an OPD. Read more in what Indian patients really search.

How Google decides which doctor to show

Google has said publicly that local results depend on three things:

  • Relevance: how well your profile matches the search. Categories, description and services matter here.
  • Distance: how close you are to the person searching. You can’t change this.
  • Prominence: how well known and trusted you are. Reviews, activity, photos and mentions across the web.

Two of these three can be built, and that is exactly where most doctors lose.

The 12 things that make a doctor’s Google profile rank
  1. The right primary category (e.g. “Orthopaedic surgeon”, not just “Doctor”)
  2. Supporting categories for your key services
  3. A clear, patient-friendly description
  4. 15–20 services, each explained in 2–3 lines
  5. Accurate timings, plus holiday hours
  6. WhatsApp and appointment booking links
  7. 25+ real photos: signboard, reception, consultation room, team
  8. Regular Google updates (posts)
  9. A steady flow of genuine reviews
  10. A reply to every review
  11. Verification and protection from wrong “suggested edits”
  12. The same name, address and phone everywhere online

What we usually find when we audit a doctor’s profile

When we audited doctor profiles across India in September 2026, these were the most common gaps:

  • 93% had no appointment booking link
  • 81% had not added a new photo in months
  • 80% had most recent reviews unanswered
  • 75% had never set holiday hours
  • 60% had too few photos
  • 58% had Google’s suggested edits waiting
  • 49% were missing supporting categories

Each gap is a patient going to the next doctor on the list. None of them is hard to fix, but they need someone to fix them properly and keep them fixed every month. Here is a step-by-step checklist to rank your clinic on Google Maps.

Reviews: the one thing Google values most

More recent, genuine reviews move you up. But how you get them matters. Fake reviews, reviews from staff or family, or offering discounts in return can get reviews removed, or the whole profile suspended. A steady flow of 2–3 genuine reviews a day is far safer than a sudden burst.

The simplest routine: after a good consultation, the doctor or reception asks, “A short Google review really helps us”, and sends the review link on WhatsApp the same day. Read our full guide on getting Google reviews ethically as a doctor.

What results look like: real numbers

Across a snapshot of our actively managed profiles, from April 2025 to August 2026:

  • 91,689+ calls from Google
  • 2.24 lakh+ direction requests
  • 3.3 lakh+ patient actions (calls, directions, website visits)
  • 32.5 lakh+ profile views

On average, a Click2Cure doctor gets 460+ calls a year from Google. Some of our standout stories:

  • Dr Bajrang Singh (paediatrician, Azamgarh): 0 → 170 calls from Google a month in 16 months. 1,285 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 4.8★ by 66 patients.
  • Dr Saurabh Talekar (orthopaedic surgeon, Mumbai): 1 → 158 calls from Google a month in 14 months. 1,060 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 4.9★ by 125 patients.
  • Dr Mamta Agrawal (gynaecologist, Delhi): 0 → 167 calls from Google a month in 3 months. 351 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 4.8★ by 50 patients.
  • Dr Rahul Bhargava (ENT surgeon, Delhi): 521 calls from Google in a single month (Aug 26). 4,128 calls from Google in the last 12 months, rated 4.6★ by 403 patients.

See more on our results page, or by speciality: dentists, orthopaedic doctors.

AEO: the next wave

Patients have started asking AI which doctor to see. ChatGPT or Google’s AI Overview usually names just 2–3 doctors, not ten. AI tends to recommend doctors whose details are consistent everywhere, whose reviews mention specific treatments, and whose services and content clearly answer patient questions. The good news: everything that makes you rank on Google Maps also prepares you for AI. Learn more in what AEO means for doctors.

How long does it take?

It never happens overnight, but done right, it works. In our data, doctors went from near-zero to 70–170 calls a month; a few did it in 3 months, most within 6–16 months of consistent work. Month 1 is foundation, months 2–3 bring rising visibility, and months 4–6 is where calls usually build steadily.

Where to start this week

  1. Search your speciality + “near me” from your clinic. Are you in the top 3?
  2. Check your primary category and services.
  3. Add 10 real clinic photos.
  4. Reply to every review from the last 3 months.
  5. Set up a simple review routine at reception.

Website SEO for doctors: what your site needs

Your Google profile brings the call; your website builds the confidence to make it. A doctor’s website doesn’t need to be large, but it needs the right pages:

  • One page per key treatment. “Knee replacement”, “Root canal”, “PCOS treatment”. Explain what it is, who needs it, recovery, and common questions. These pages rank for treatment searches and answer AI tools.
  • A clear About page. Qualifications, experience, hospital affiliations and a real photo.
  • A Contact page with the same name, address and phone as your Google profile, a map, timings and WhatsApp.
  • Fast and mobile-friendly. Most patients search on phones. A slow site loses them.
  • FAQ sections on each treatment page, written in patient language.

Link your website from your Google profile, and link your Google review page from your website.

The most common mistakes doctors make

  1. Keyword-stuffed names like “Best Ortho Doctor in Pune | Knee Specialist”. It may look helpful, but Google can flag it. Use your real signboard name.
  2. Buying reviews or asking staff to review. Short-term gain, long-term risk.
  3. Wrong or too many categories. Only choose what you actually offer.
  4. Different details on different sites. An old phone number on Justdial or a different clinic name on Practo confuses Google and AI.
  5. Ignoring Google’s suggested edits. Google sometimes changes timings or categories based on user suggestions. Review them regularly.
  6. Posting once and stopping. Consistency is what compounds.

How to measure whether it’s working

Your Google Business Profile shows free performance data. Track these every month:

  • Calls from your profile
  • Direction requests
  • Website clicks
  • Profile views (Search and Maps)
  • Searches that found you: the actual words patients used
  • New reviews and your average rating

Compare month on month, not day to day. Google also takes around 10 days to finalise its numbers, so the most recent days always look lower than they really are.

Doing it yourself vs getting help

Everything in this guide can be done by a motivated doctor or a trained staff member. The challenge is consistency: 12 elements, 3–4 updates a week, review replies, photos, monitoring edits and monthly tracking, alongside a full OPD. That is why many doctors choose a partner. If you do, choose one that works only with doctors, shows real results from clinics like yours, and never uses fake reviews.

Ethics first

Doctors carry a responsibility others don’t. Keep content medically accurate, avoid exaggerated claims or guarantees, protect patient privacy in reviews and replies, and never publish patient photos without written consent. Done this way, online growth strengthens your reputation instead of risking it.
